Macho lost his valient fight against EPM on October 7, 2004..........Not only was it a extreme loss for our family as we raised his dam and him and still have his sire but the entire Paint Horse Industry truly lost one of the few GREAT SIRES..... He will be missed everyday that we live and breath but certainly not forgotten as people just aren't blessed with sort of GREATNESS and he gave us so much joy and pride.......
As of 4/2001 Macho once again had EPM occur with more serious consequences to him. We put him on the medication out of Canada that has to have FDA approval plus the usual medication and he did quite well. We did collect him finally in September 2001 and he did function, something which he couldn't do earlier that spring. However on his dismount he showed a great deal of in-coordination so at that time we made the decision to not try to jump him on a mare or dummy again if we could keep from it since we did not want this GREAT HORSE to fall and break a leg on dismount. After working with his this Spring of 2002, he just exhibits the same problems and in fact after several jumps gets weak and absolutely refuses to work on the ground. We now think that nerve damage was done to the trigger that makes him ejaculate so as of 3/2002 we have decided to retire Macho from the breeding barn and let him lead a happy, healthy life as is. However in December 2002 our Veterinarian, Trish Kentner, said that she learned some new details about EPM and breeding stallions while at the Veterinarian Conference in Florida in December and it is our understanding that with medication that is a new treatment that we can try to collect Macho on the ground again without doing any further damage to him. So we'll see!!!! Would be a dream if in fact some miracle could be worked on him for a few of ou r mares
HE DESERVES THE BEST. Especially when you consider his record with such a limited foals. He is blessed to us and he will be treated as such. It's been a honor to from the days of holding him in your arms when he was 15 minutes old and be able to now look at him at 21 (he and his dam, granddam and sire are our lives). He is still a magnificent animal and we'd certainly encourage anyone that is in the Central Oregon Area to come and see him then you will understand why he set such a record and he still would outshine 99% of the 21 year olds you'll see.
In the meantime we are VERY EXCITED about what we see out of his son, BARLNK MACHO MAN TWO. We felt that with his pedigree and looks that he couldn't help be a horse that would follow right in his great sire's footsteps. His first foals are totally UNREAL and it's quite possible he's going to be an even better sire on both sexes unlike Macho who always produced much better fillies than he did colts. Mister as we call him is almost unbeatable in the show ring and will continue thru his 3 YO year to be shown. Currently (6/10/03) he has 172 Open Halter Ponts, 58 Grands, 20 Res. Grands, High Point Stallion (All Ages) at our big Zone Show in 2001 and 2002, High Point Stallion in the NWCC and OSCC in 2001 and 2002 and on track to do the same in 2003. He has also won all of his futurities and earned in the APHA Trust a total exceeding $10,500.
Barlink Macho Man was bred not only be a superior looking horse but with the conformation and mind to be a performance horse (a fact that many people overlooked early in his Siring Career because he was such a tremendous halter horse). Our plans were to campaign him in all the performance events since we came from a history of working, cutting, cattle working and rodeoing. Unfortunately his injuries stopped his show career. At age 20, he still shows that great athletic conformation along with grace, beauty and refinement, which has always been his trademark. He has what we call "THE LOOK OF THE EAGLES". He is a massive horse but still carries the definition that would make a "cowboy" want to saddle him up and go rope some steers, cut a cow or run a race. Remember his pedigree is full of performers including the great OUR SIR PRIZE that whipped QH's in all around cattle and pleasure events and was either Superior or ROM in almost every event available to APHA horses. His Grand dam, MY TONTIME, was a tremendous cutting horse that could outrun our good AA+ Race horses and came from a racing family of Tonto Bar Gill and Leo. She also earned many of dollars in the cutting and rodeo (barrels) arenas. MY TONTIME produced by Limestone Louie AQHA MISTAKE BAR LINK that earned National Titles in Halter and Performance plus #1 National Honor Roll Youth Halter Mare. MISTAKE has since gone on and became one of the premier broodmares in the Nation producing any number of top Honor Roll and World and Res. World Halter Champions. MY TONTINE'S second daughter by Our Sir Prize, PRIZE'S BAR LINK (a National Champion Producer) was foundered as a yearling and never got out other than to 8 local judges where she won her classes and picked up several Grands/Res.Grands as a 2 year old but she is a multiple producer of National Halter Champions, Superiors in Halter and Performance (Barlink Macho Man, Barlink Spade Spot, Barlink Tuffy Too and Barlnk Tuffy Maid (Tuffy Maid with her first foal of 1996 is a producer of Superior Performance and earner of $23,000 in futurity and trust earnings out of an unproven stallion and since then has several daughters earning halter points) all by Tuffys Two Spades AQHA. PRIZE'S BAR LINK'S last foal is a big 1997 sorrel overo gelding that stands 16 hands plus and is already making his mark in the show arena in performance and halter. PRIZE'S BAR LINK'S full sister, MISS SIZZLE CHICK is the dam of 2 APHA Champions and multiple World Champion Performance horses. (Barlink Sizzler and Barlink Tuff Dude; 1 Superior Halter with multiple performance points, Barlink Sasi Chasi and all by Tuffys Two Spades AQHA making them full blood brothers and sisters to Barlink Macho Man, etc.). The history of all of these horses state that not only can they halter in the AM on a National and World Level but they can also perform in the PM on the World Level earning between them any number of Halter and Performance National/Res.National, World and Res.World Titles from Halter, Hunter Under Saddle, Working Hunter, Hunter Hack and placing in the top ten in Western Pleasure.
Then don't forget his great daddy. TUFFYS TWO SPADES. Not only did he earn a Grand Championship the only time he was shown in halter at 2 but he also went on an earned money in fence work at 3 in the Northwest Snaffle Bit Futurity. Tuffy went on and with very limited foals produced 9 APHA World/National and Res. World/National Champions in Halter and Performance. And he had several AQHA horses that earned a number of points and won futurities in the AQHA Association. Tuffy Two Spades sire died when he was 5 but he was a World Champion Halter Horse and ROM Pleasure and he was by the great Tardy Too. He was also, undoubtedly, the fanciest natural individual that we have ever had the pleasure of seeing with tremendous muscling, size (15.3+), probably weighed over 1400# but still was extremely elegant. He was a real horse, not a fad fat horse but a real horse. Tuffy's dam is possibly one of the best producing mares in the Nation as she has a number of her get that are Superior halter, AQHA Champions, World and Reserve World Champions including the awesome PLAYGIRL'S REFLECTION. She was a grand mare herself and if you want to know where all the class comes we believe as breeders that you don't have to look past this grand old mare. She was bred to be a broodmare and looked the part. In todays world, we've lost sight of having mares that can produce both halter and performance in one horse. Tuffy was her first foal but he could have been a great sire if he would have been given the chance and many people told us that he was the best producing horse out of Tardy Tuffy 1. Again without doubt Tardy Tuffy 1 was one of the most elegant, massive horses we have ever had the privilege of seeing and we've seen a lot of the World & Res. World Champion halter horses plus Suecash would blow you away with her pretty, massiveness and the muscling she had. These were correct horses, bred to be sires and dams.and they were horses that were natural.......not artificially built on fat. Both had as more muscle than you'll see on any horse to date and it stayed with them no matter what condition they were in. Both were just an awesome horse and bred by a BREEDER.
As far as Macho is concerned here are very few horses that go into the show ring and make
their mark as a great Performer or Halter horse and then return to the breeding barn and
make an equal or better mark in the Industry. Barlink Macho Man has proven year
after year without the benefit of money or major advertisements and promotions, or
hiring Nationally known trainers that his foals are competitive at any level in the
United States in both Halter and Performance. He has 33 World/Reserve World
Champions in Halter, Performance & Futurities, 1 SUPREME CHAMPION (the first since
1992), 1 Superior All-Around, 22 APHA/AJPHA Champions, 6 Open, Amateur or Youth
Versatility Champions, 110 Superiors, 220 ROM's including ROM Race, $425,000 Futurity and
Trust Money Earners . The 2002 SUPREME CHAMPION, Macho Town Chica age 5 (she
has over 300 halter points so don't tell us a halter horse can't do something and we're
willing to bet if you saw her you'd think she was one of the best halter individuals you'd
ever seen and it's all natural plus she's out of a performance type mare). We know
of several of his superior halter and performance horses that we felt could have run
AA or AAA and certainly had all the cow in this world plus were top knotch pleasure
horses. We just feel that if a horse is strong, correct and good minded there
is no reason you can't go in all directions with them and this idea of having a fad horse
of one dimension is just that, A FAD!!!!
His sons and daughters also are making a mark in the breeding barns as outstanding sires and dams with multiple World and Reserve World Champions amoung their get. The most remarkable thing is that he has only has 389 foals in his lifetime. Most horses make their mark with many more mares and foals and especially the well know horses like Macho with the Semen Shipping. To date his average of foals produced each year since 1985 when his first foal was born is 22 foals a year including Breeding Stock and in 2002 only 2 mares are in foal to him both colored but one died. Not many horses can stand against him with their records with as few as foals plus that many of his foals have been shown by their owners and not by professionals. The percentage of his winners for numbers produced in both colored and breeding stock foals is incredible and probably not nor will be equaled by any Paint stallion in the Industry before, since or in the future.
THE BOTTOM LINE IS NO MATTER HOW GREAT A SHOW HORSE YOU MIGHT HAVE; THEY MUST BECOME A SIRE OR PRODUCER TO PROVE THEIR WORTH. There are many stallions but very few "SIRES" and with Barlink Macho Man we know without a doubt that his record is quite phenomenal and stands alone and he is a SIRE without equal~~~~~~~
